Assistant trainer Corrina Algerio halter trains all the Evans Ranch new colts when they are three to four weeks old. She ties the mother nearby outside the pen. She gently familiarizes the colt with the rope, being careful not to be kicked.  Then she ties the rope behind the colt to limit its mobility.  She then rubs the halter on the colt until it is ready to accept wearing it.  She says the usual time her technique takes to have these good-minded foals leading is a half-hour.  Click on photos for larger views.
